Everything is calculated in your browser. We do not save your figures; they are only written into this page's address so you can share it. How it is calculated
The formula in plain English; each step builds on the one before.
- 01
Net burn
Monthly costs − Monthly revenue
Burn rate is the money that drains from the bank each month. Count cash collected, not invoices sent.
- 02
Cash runway
Cash in the bank ÷ Net burn
Shows how many months of burn your cash covers. If net burn is zero or negative, the bank balance does not shrink and the runway is unlimited.
- 03
With growth
Each month: revenue × (1 + growth), costs × (1 + cost growth)
If you enter rates, the calculation runs month by month. The month cash hits zero is the end of the runway; the first month revenue covers costs is break-even. If your cash does not last until break-even, we show the gap as extra cash needed.
- 04
Scenarios
Same calculation with costs × 0.9 and costs × 0.8
Shows how many months longer your runway gets if you cut costs by 10 and 20 per cent.
This month counts as month 1; months follow the date in your browser.

What is the difference between burn rate and net burn rate?
Gross burn rate is the total you spend in a month. Net burn rate is what is left after taking off the cash collected in the same month. Runway uses the net figure, and so does this tool.
What happens if my revenue is higher than my costs?
Net burn is zero or negative, the bank balance does not shrink and the tool shows an unlimited runway. If you entered cost growth and costs grow faster than revenue, the month your cash runs out still shows, because the calculation runs month by month.
When should I start raising again?
There is no fixed month. Funding rounds and sales both tend to take longer than planned. Start looking for new money while there are still months of cash in the bank, and update your runway every month.
How accurate is the result?
As accurate as your assumptions. Revenue and costs change every month; late payments, taxes and one-off costs move the numbers too. Update your figures monthly and read the result as an estimate.
